To measure your wall for a floor-to-ceiling wine rack, measure the floor-to-ceiling height at the exact spot where each post will stand, then check that number against the kit's height limit, its width and its depth with bottles. VintageView post kits ship with 10-foot posts that you cut to your ceiling on site, so the height reading tells you where to cut, while the width and bottle depth tell you how many bottles the run holds.
Working through five checks before you order prevents two costly surprises: a ceiling that is taller than the kit allows, and a post that lands on trim, an outlet or hollow drywall. Every dimension below comes from VintageView's product pages and installation guides for the Evolution, Vino Series and Helix kits we carry.
Step 1: Measure the ceiling height where each post will stand
Measure from the finished floor to the finished ceiling at each post location, not in the middle of the room. A floor or ceiling that slopes even slightly changes the cut length, and two-post kits such as the Evolution Wine Wall Post Kit are cut one post at a time.
VintageView's installation guides describe the method: lay the post sections together, position them so the measurement from the top to the bottom of the base plates equals your ceiling height, and mark the Post Top. Cut the Post Top squarely with a metal cutting saw, then smooth the cut with a metal file. The Vino Series guide adds two warnings: do not use an abrasive saw, and do not mark or cut from the C-channel end.
Step 2: Check your height against the kit's limit
Each kit family has a different maximum, so compare your tallest reading with these VintageView figures:
- Evolution Wine Wall Post Kit 10: VintageView's installation guide says the post system is designed for ceilings up to 120 inches, and the product page says the kit reaches 122 inches with the top mounting base extended 2 inches. Shorter ceilings are handled by cutting the posts.
- Vino Series Post Kit 10 (Vino Pins or Vino Rails): one 10-foot post, cut to fit. The installation guide lists ceilings up to 10 feet. VintageView's Vino Series Post 2' Extension inserts into the top of the post and raises the total potential height to 146 inches.
- Helix Post Kit 10: listed at 122 inches tall, with the post cut on site to match the ceiling.
If your reading is above these numbers, send us the measurement before you order.
Step 3: Measure the width and mark everything on the wall
Next, measure the clear wall width available for the run and compare it with the kit width in the table below. Kit widths range from 3 inches for a single-bottle-width Vino Rails post to 43-1/8 inches for the three-column Evolution Low Profile kit.
Then mark every obstruction inside that footprint: outlets, switches, thermostats, vents, door and window casing, and crown molding. Shift the layout on paper until each post has clear floor and ceiling under its mounting base.
Step 4: Measure how far the rack projects into the room
Floor-to-ceiling kits are columns fastened at the floor and ceiling, and VintageView designs the Evolution post to take its label-forward racks off the wall for room dividers and displays against glass. Depth with bottles depends on the kit and how many bottles deep you choose:
- Evolution Single Sided Wine Wall Post Kit 10 1C: 5-5/8, 9-5/8 or 13-5/8 inches (one, two or three bottles deep).
- Vino Pins Single Sided Post Kit 10: 5.5, 9.5 or 13.5 inches.
- Vino Rails Single Sided Post Kit 10: 14.5 inches.
- Helix Single Sided Post Kit 10: 4-3/4 inches (single) or 6-3/4 inches (dual).
- Evolution Low Profile Post Kit: starting at 3 inches in total depth.
Measure the baseboard thickness and height at the same time. The mounting bases sit on the floor and ceiling, so plan their positions where they land on flat flooring and ceiling surface rather than on baseboard, shoe molding or crown.
Step 5: Locate structure for the floor and ceiling fasteners
VintageView does not include the fasteners that go into your floor and ceiling, because the right anchor depends on the material. Its installation guides say that for drywall surfaces it recommends installing to joists or wood backing when available, and the Vino Series guide calls for two fasteners at the ceiling and two at the floor.
Use a stud finder to locate ceiling joists at each planned post position. If a post falls between joists and the ceiling is still open, add wood backing before the drywall goes up. For concrete, tile or stone floors, choose anchors rated for that material.
The tools VintageView lists for the Evolution post system are a drill with torque setting, Phillips bit and screwdriver, level, pencil, tape measure, metal cutting saw and metal file, with a rubber mallet optional.
Bottle count per post run
The bottle count is set by the racks or pins included in the kit, not by how much post you cut off. Use this table to match your measured width and depth to a run:
| Kit | Width | Depth with bottles | Bottles (1, 2 or 3 deep) | Height |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Evolution Single Sided Wine Wall Post Kit 10 1C | 14-5/8 in. | 5-5/8 to 13-5/8 in. | 18, 36 or 54 | Up to 122 in. |
| Evolution Single Sided Wine Wall Post Kit 10 3C | 41 in. | Varies by depth | 54, 108 or 162 | Up to 122 in. |
| Evolution Low Profile Post Kit 10 3C | 43-1/8 in. | From 3 in. | 54, 108 or 162 | Up to 122 in. |
| Vino Pins Single Sided Post Kit 10 | 13 in. | 5.5 to 13.5 in. | 20, 40 or 60 | 120 in. post, 146 in. with extension |
| Vino Rails Single Sided Post Kit 10 | 3, 8 or 13 in. (1, 2 or 3 bottles wide) | 14.5 in. | 20, 40 or 60 (by width) | 120 in. post |
| Helix Single Sided Post Kit 10 | 13 in. single, 21 in. dual | 4-3/4 or 6-3/4 in. | 18 single, 36 dual | 122 in. |
Two decision rules follow from the table. If the wall is narrow, a single post (Vino Series or Helix) or the 14-5/8 inch Evolution 1C kit fits where a 41 inch three-column kit will not. If you need more bottles in the same width, go deeper rather than wider: the Evolution 1C kit triples from 18 to 54 bottles as depth grows from 5-5/8 to 13-5/8 inches. On Vino Series posts, VintageView says the mounting plates can go at any vertical interval of 5 inches or greater, so you can spread the kit's plates over the height you have.
Double-sided versions display bottles on both faces of the run. Our Wine Wall Post Kit Double Side, for example, holds 108, 162 or 216 bottles. For layout ideas once you have your numbers, see how many bottles fit on a VintageView wine rack and floor-to-ceiling vs wall-mounted VintageView racks.

Frequently asked questions
What ceiling height do VintageView floor-to-ceiling kits fit?
The posts are 10 feet long and cut down on site, so any ceiling up to the kit limit works. VintageView lists the Evolution Wine Wall Post Kit at up to 122 inches with the top mounting base extended 2 inches, the Helix Post Kit 10 at 122 inches, and the Vino Series post at up to 10 feet.
Are the floor and ceiling fasteners included?
No. VintageView's post installation guides say floor and ceiling hardware is not included, because it depends on what you are fastening into. The kits include the assembly hardware for the racks and posts.
Can I fasten the post to a drywall ceiling?
VintageView recommends installing to joists or wood backing when available on drywall surfaces. Locate the joists before you finalize post positions, and add backing if the ceiling is still open.
My ceiling is taller than 10 feet. What are my options?
For Vino Series posts, VintageView's Post 2' Extension raises the total potential height to 146 inches. For Evolution and Helix runs above 122 inches, send us your measurements before ordering so we can check the right configuration.
Does cutting the post shorter reduce the bottle count?
Not as long as the height you have still fits everything in the kit. The count comes from the racks, pins or rails included, so a 9-foot and a 10-foot ceiling get the same bottle positions. Vino Series plates must sit at least 5 inches apart, so on a low ceiling confirm that all of the kit's plates fit before you order.
Send us your wall measurements
