Best for
- Small cellars with no room for mechanical equipment and no way to run ductwork.
- Moving the heat outside. The condensing unit has an outdoor enclosure.
- Projects with a refrigeration contractor. The sections connect with copper lines, like a residential mini split.
- Cold climates, with the Extreme Climate Protection option down to -20Β°F.
Not the right fit if
- You want a plug in install. Wine Guardian requires a technician certified to handle refrigerant.
- There is no 208 to 230 V circuit for the condensing unit. Only the fan coil plugs into 115 V.
- The lines would run over 50 feet or rise over 15 feet.
- You need moisture added. That takes the separate Wine Guardian humidifier, which needs water and a drain.
Installation requirements
- Fan coil through the wall (opening up to 14 1/2 inches wide by 16 1/4 inches high) or on the wall inside the cellar, on its own 115 V outlet.
- Condensing unit hard-wired at 208 to 230 V with a disconnect, on a level pad above snowfall, 12 inches clear on every side.
- Copper lines from the installer, 1/4 inch liquid and 5/16 inch suction. Power the condensing unit 24 hours before start-up.
- A trapped condensate drain, at least 1/2 inch inside diameter.

Common questions
What is in the boxes? The fan coil, the condensing unit and a 6 foot drain hose. The controller is built into the fan coil; a remote controller, sensor and humidifier are optional.
Which option do I need? The Base System includes low ambient protection, rated down to 20Β°F outside. Extreme Climate Protection is for colder sites. Electric Heat adds a heater in the fan coil for a cellar that can get too cold.
What does the warranty cover? Parts for 25 months and labor for 13 months from the original invoice, for the original buyer. Labor is covered only with Wine Guardian approval before work starts.
